Details of installation of the IAC servomotor

In order to avoid ESM failure at performance described below checks use only the digital voltmeter with high (over 10 megohms) an impedance!


The car equipped with OBD-II system should be driven away on car repair shop for reading of codes of malfunctions with use of the special scanner. There are some checks (the causes of failures connected with identification at engine start) which the owner of a vehicle can independently execute, in all other cases the car should be driven away in car-care center.


Oxygen sensors

General information

O2 sensors, or l-probes trace percentage of oxygen in the fulfilled gases of the engine. Present at system of release of molecule О2, entering reaction with a sensitive element of the sensor, force the last to develop alarm tension. The amplitude of a signal, depending on concentration of oxygen can make from 0 to 1 In, and the signal is lower 0.4 In testifies to high contents О2, - the grown poor air and fuel mix, over 0.6 In, - about low (the enriched mix). ESM continuously traces a signal arriving from the oxygen sensor, and on the basis of arriving data makes the corresponding correction of structure air and fuel, trying to support it at an optimum level (14.7 parts of air on 1 part of fuel, - the stekhiometrichesky number) to which there corresponds the indication of the oxygen sensor 0.4 ÷ 0.6 of V.Korrektirovka of structure of a mix is made at the expense of management of duration of time of opening of injectors of injection. The oxygen sensor starts to develop alarm tension only after will be heated-up to normal working temperature, a component approximately 320°С. In a look told, in the course of warming up of the ESM engine works in a mode of the opened contour.

On the models equipped with system of onboard self-diagnostics of OBD-II two oxygen sensors one of which is established ahead of the catalytic converter, another - behind are usually provided that allows the module of management to support efficiency of functioning of the catalyst at a maximum level. For acceleration an exit of sensors in an operating mode they can be equipped with electric heating elements.

Check

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

Scanner connection by a protykaniye of isolation of wires is fraught with electroconducting damage, - enter щупы a measuring instrument into plugs from a reverse side of the socket!


1. Do not forget to check serviceability of a condition of all oxygen sensors a part of system.

Access to oxygen sensors is usually complicated. Be careful, - remember that components of system of release can remain hot during even long time after a stop of the engine and pressing to their surface of plaits of electroconducting can lead to destruction of their isolation. Try to make, whenever possible, check of components of system with use of the special scanner, allowing to reveal changes of alarm tension within thousand shares of volt.

2. Disconnect from the sensor electroconducting.
3. Measure resistance between sensor PWR and GRD plugs. If the result of measurement differs from the nominal rate stipulated by standard requirements (6 Ohm at temperature 20°С), therefore the heating element of the sensor is faulty and assembly is subject to replacement.
4. Restore initial connection of electroconducting and start the engine. Connect the digital voltmeter between HO2S and SIG RTN (GND) plugs of the socket of the sensor, - if fluctuations of indications of a measuring instrument occur insufficiently quickly, or fall outside the limits a range of a nominal range (0.01 ÷ 1.0 In), replace the sensor.


Removal and installation

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Disconnect a negative wire from the battery.

If the stereosystem established on the car is equipped with a security code before disconnecting the battery make sure that have the correct combination for audiosystem input in action!

2. To Poddomkratta the car also establish it on props.

3. Mark wires and disconnect the oxygen sensor from the main plait of electroconducting of the engine.

4. By means of a special key turn out the sensor and remove it from the car.

5. Estimate a condition covering a working element of the oxygen sensor of deposits.

6. Before installation the sensor should be oiled the getting.
7. Screw the sensor on the regular place and tighten it with demanded effort (37 ÷ 45 H • м).
8. Restore initial connection of electroconducting.
9. Lower the car on the earth and connect a negative wire to the battery.


Servomotor of system of stabilization of turns of idling (IAC)

General information

The servo-driver of IAC system is carried out on the step-by-step electromotor with a food on a direct current. Built in servomotor assembly the sensor continuously traces the provision of a drive and gives out the relevant information on PCM exercising the general administration of functioning of system of stabilization of turns of idling.

Check

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Press to IAC servo-driver assembly a stethoscope or a big screw-driver. Ask the assistant to include ignition, without starting the engine, - the driving electromotor should publish some distinct clicks confirming serviceability of a condition of a chain on a site between PCM and the servo-driver of system. Further pass to condition check actually the electromotor.

2. Disconnect from servomotor assembly electroconducting and an ohmmeter in pairs probe plugs 1-2 and 2-3 of the contact socket from a drive (not a plait!). If the result of measurement falls outside the limits an admissible range (28 ÷ 33 Ohm), replace the IAC electromotor. At positive results of the first testing probe plugs 5-4 and 5-6, - the result should lie within the same range. At negative results of check replace the servomotor.


Removal and installation

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Details of installation of the IAC servomotor are shown on an illustration.
2. Disconnect a negative wire from the battery.

If the stereosystem established on the car is equipped with a security code before disconnecting the battery make sure that have the correct combination for audiosystem input in action!

3. Remove an inlet sleeve of an air purifier.
4. Disconnect the hoses brought to the IAC servo-driver.
5. Turn out fixing bolts and remove IAC servo-driver assembly from the throttle case.
6. Installation is made upside-down, - do not forget to replace sealing laying.


The sensor of temperature of cooling liquid of the engine (ECT)

General information

As it is clear from its name, the ECT sensor serves for measurement of temperature of cooling liquid of the engine. On a design the sensor represents a termistor which resistance changes in inverse proportion to temperature change. The sensor issues removed information on PCM which uses obtained data at corrections of a corner of an advancing of ignition, intensity of a stream of EGR, structure of an air and fuel mix and so forth. Two wires on which on it basic tension in 5 V.Parametry of a target signal of the sensor moves are brought to the sensor are defined by change of resistance of a working element depending on temperature.

Check

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Merge from the engine cooling liquid, having lowered its level is lower than level of position of the ECT sensor established on the inlet pipeline.

2. Disconnect from the sensor electroconducting and remove it from the engine.

3. Lower a working element of the sensor in a vessel with warmed-up liquid where the thermometer also should be lowered.

4. Connect to the sensor an ohmmeter and start to warm up water, tracing nature of change of indications of a measuring instrument according to thermometer indications. Compare results of measurements to requirements of Specifications (5.1 ÷ 6.5 kiloohms at 0°С; 2.1 ÷ 2.7 kiloohm at 20°С and 0.26 ÷ 0.36 kiloohms at 80°С. The faulty sensor is subject to replacement.

Alternatively check of the ECT sensor can be made by means of the diagnostic scanner.


Removal and installation

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Disconnect a negative wire from the battery.

If the stereosystem established on the car is equipped with a security code before disconnecting the battery make sure that have the correct combination for audiosystem input in action!

2. Merge from the engine cooling liquid, having lowered its level is lower than level of position of the ECT sensor established on the inlet pipeline.

3. Disconnect from the sensor electroconducting.

4. Turn out the sensor and remove it from the engine.

5. Before installation it is necessary to grease a carving part of the sensor with suitable hermetic.

6. Screw the sensor on the regular place and tighten it with demanded effort (30 H • м).
7. Fill in in cooling system necessary quantity of a mix of a demanded grade (see. Head of Control and routine maintenance).
8. Connect to the ECT sensor electroconducting (track reliability of fixing of the socket).
9. Connect a negative wire to the battery.

The sensor of temperature of soaked-up air (IAT)

General information

The IAT sensor is a part of the sensor of measurement of weight of air (MAF) and serves for control of temperature of air soaked up in the engine. The sensor, as well as the ECT sensor considered above, represents a termistor with negative temperature factor. Information of PCM arriving from the IAT sensor uses at corrections of installations of a corner of an advancing of ignition and structure of an air and fuel mix. Besides, this information in a combination with the data arriving from the sensor of pressure is used at calculation by the module of management of weight of the engine of air submitted to cylinders. The working signal is developed by the sensor by transformation basic 5-воьтового tension according to change of resistance of a thermosensitive element of assembly.

Check

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. The IAT sensor is a part of assembly of the sensor of measurement of weight of air (MAF).

2. Disconnect from the MAF sensor electroconducting.
3. Measure resistance between plugs 4 and 6 (all models except 2.0 l of DOHC)/6 and 8 (models of 2.0 l of DOHC) the contact socket of the sensor.

Alternatively check of the IAT sensor can be made by means of the diagnostic scanner.


4. Compare results of measurements to requirements of Specifications (5.3 ÷ 6.7 kiloohms at temperature 0°С; 2.3 ÷ 3.0 kiloohm at temperature 20°С and 0.30 ÷ 0.42 kiloohms at temperature 80°С).

The heating of the sensor can be carried out by means of the household hair dryer.

5. The faulty sensor is subject to replacement.


Removal and installation

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

The IAT sensor is a part of the MAF sensor, the description of procedures of removal and which installation is provided below in the present Section.

Sensor of measurement of weight of air (MAF)

General information

The MAF sensor serves for measurement of weight of an air stream soaked up in the engine. Information issued by the sensor is used by PCM at determination of duration of time of opening of injectors. As a working element (“the hot wire”) in the MAF sensor is used the thin platinum wire which reeled up on a ceramic pig and has been filled in with glass. The thread heats up to the value exceeding ambient temperature on 200°С, and the working element is blown by a stream of air soaked up in the engine. The working signal defining temperature of soaked-up air, acts in film from a "cold" element of the MAF sensor (IAT sensor).

Basic tension moves on the MAF sensor with PCM, grounding is also organized via the management module. The sensor returns to the module a signal which amplitude is proportional to a current, proceeding through “a hot wire” a working element and providing maintenance of temperature of the last at the set level. Strengthening обдува leads the worker of an element to decrease in resistive resistance of “a hot wire” and temperature keeping at former level needs a big current. The amplitude of information impulses of a signal is directly proportional to force of a wire proceeding through a working element and at serviceable functioning of the sensor should increase with increase in a consumption of air soaked up in the engine.

Check

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Having connected a multimeter to a reverse side of plugs of the contact socket, measure tension of the MAF sensor.
2. At the included ignition (the engine do not start) the tension size between BATT and GND plugs should make not less than 10.5 V.Esli this condition is not carried out, it is necessary to check a condition of electroconducting of contours of giving of a food and sensor grounding.
3. Now start the engine and measure tension size between GND and SIG plugs. If the result of measurement makes less than 4.5 In, check a condition of electroconducting of contours of a food and grounding.
4. Without suppressing the engine, measure size of alarm tension between GND and SIG RTN plugs, - if the result of measurement falls outside the limits a range 0.34 ÷ 1.96 In, replace the sensor.

Removal and installation

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

Try not to subject the removed MAF sensor to shock, temperature and chemical influences!

1. Disconnect a negative wire from the battery.

If the stereosystem established on the car is equipped with a security code before disconnecting the battery make sure that have the correct combination for audiosystem input in action!


2. Release clamps of fastening of a casing of an air purifier.

3. Weaken a collar of fastening of a final air line on the throttle case.

4. Remove a branch pipe сапуна and disconnect electroconducting from the MAF sensor.

5. Remove a final air line, then disconnect it from an air purifier cover.

6. Give four fixing nuts and remove MAF sensor assembly from an air purifier cover.

7. Installation is made upside-down.

The sensor of absolute pressure in the inlet pipeline (MAP)

General information

Information arriving from the MAP sensor is fundamental configuration in management of an air and fuel mix. Using data on temperature and relative pressure (data on atmospheric pressure arrive from the BARO sensor) in the inlet pipeline, PCM calculates the current consumption of air soaked up in the engine and on the basis of the analysis of received information defines the number of combustion of fuel injected into chambers is necessary.

Check

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. By means of a multimeter check tension on the MAP sensor socket (щупы the sensor are entered into contact plugs from a reverse side of the socket).
2. Include ignition (the engine do not start) and make sure that tension between SIG and GND plugs makes not less than 48 In, otherwise check a condition of electroconducting of contours of giving of a food and grounding, make necessary regenerative repair.
3. Start the engine and measure tension between socket GND and SIG RTN plugs. If the result of measurement falls outside the limits an admissible range (0.8 ÷ 2.4 In), replace the sensor.
4. At positive results of the last check repeat measurement, having sharply squeezed out thus a gas pedal, - the indication should rise to 2.4 In and be stabilized at this level. The faulty sensor is subject to replacement.

Removal and installation

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Disconnect a negative wire from the battery.

If the stereosystem established on the car is equipped with a security code before disconnecting the battery make sure that have the correct combination for audiosystem input in action!


2. Disconnect electroconducting from the MAP sensor.

3. Turn out bolts of fastening of the sensor and remove it from the inlet pipeline.

4. Installation is made upside-down.

Sensor of provision of a butterfly valve (TPS)

General information

In a basis of a design of the sensor of provision of a butterfly valve (TPS) the potentiometer, i.e. the resistor which resistance changes as a result of mechanical moving of mobile components is put. The sensor is mechanically connected to an axis of a butterfly valve and develops the alarm tension proportional to the current size of resistance of a potentiometer, a zaslonka defined by situation in the throttle case. The signal from the sensor stands out on PCM which on the basis of the analysis of arriving data defines situation and the direction of movement of a zaslonka and as appropriate corrects structure of an air and fuel mix, installation of a corner of an advancing of ignition and intensity of a podmeshivaniye of the fulfilled gases (EGR).

The module of management (PCM) organizes giving on TPS of basic tension (5 In) and grounding. The amplitude of a working signal of the sensor is defined by position of the toddler connected with an axis of a butterfly valve of a potentiometer and on single turns should make about 0.9 Century.

Check

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

Adjustment of TPS is not represented possible, in case of violation of serviceability of functioning the sensor should be replaced.


1. Start and by means of the digital voltmeter measure tension between SIG RTN and GND plugs from the back party of the contact socket of the sensor, - at single turns of the indication should lie within a range of 0.2 ÷ 1.4 Century.

2. Slowly transfer a butterfly valve to completely open situation, - tension should increase also slowly till 4.8 Century.

3. If the signal is absent, check serviceability of giving on the sensor of basic tension (5.0 In) and grounding potential (less than 0.3 In), in case of need make the corresponding regenerative repair of electroconducting / replace PCM. If a food and grounding in norm, replace the sensor.

Alternatively check of TPS can be made by means of the diagnostic input reader of skanerny type.



Removal and installation

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Disconnect a negative wire from the battery.

If the stereosystem established on the car is equipped with a security code before disconnecting the battery make sure that have the correct combination for audiosystem input in action!


2. Disconnect electroconducting from the sensor of provision of a butterfly valve.

3. Turn out two fixing screws and dismantle TPS from a butterfly valve axis.

4. Installation is made upside-down, - track correctness of input of the sensor in gearing with a zaslonka axis.


Sensor of provision of a camshaft (CMP)

General information

On the basis of the analysis of information of PCM arriving from the CMP sensor defines position of the piston of the first cylinder of the engine and uses the obtained data at calculation of phases of a gazoraspredeleniye. At admissions of signals the CMP module of management carries out fuel injection in cylinders according to results of the last successful calculation that excludes probability spontaneous остановов the engine in case of a CMP sensor exit out of operation (efficiency of return of the power unit can decrease considerably thus).

Check

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

The sensor develops a signal of the alternating current which frequency is proportional to frequency of rotation of a camshaft of the engine. Check of the sensor can be made only with use of the expensive diagnostic equipment in view of what it will be reasonable to charge its performance to specialists of car-care center of the Mitsubishi company. Monitoring of functioning of the CMP sensor can be made by means of the diagnostic input reader of skanerny type, - follow instructions of manufacturers of the device.


Removal and installation

Models of 1.6 l, 2.0 l of DOHC and 1.8 l since 1997 вып.

3. Turn out fixing screws and remove the sensor from the engine.
4. Installation is made upside-down, - track correctness of laying of electroconducting and reliability of a tightening of fixture.


Models of 1.5 l, 2.4 l, 3.0 l of SOHC, 3.5 l and 1.8 l of 1993 ÷ 1996 вып.

Models of 3.0 l of DOHC

1. Details of installation of the CMP sensor on models of 3.0 l of DOHC are shown on an illustration.

2. Disconnect a negative wire from the battery.

If the stereosystem established on the car is equipped with a security code before disconnecting the battery make sure that have the correct combination for audiosystem input in action!

3. Remove a gas-distributing belt (see. Head Engine). Disconnect electroconducting from the CMP sensor.
4. Release fixing bolts and remove the CMP sensor from the car.
5. Installation is made upside-down.


Sensor of a provision/angle of rotation of a cranked shaft (CKP)

General information

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

By pulse signals of PCM arriving from the CKP sensor determines exact position of the piston of each of engine cylinders. On the basis of results of the analysis of received information the module of management defines the optimum moments of injection and fuel ignition.


Check

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

As well as in case of CMP it is necessary to charge performance of check of the CKP sensor to specialists of car-care center. It is alternatively possible to use the diagnostic scanner.


Removal and installation

Models of 2.0 l of SOHC and 1.5 l of 1990 ÷ 1996 вып.

Models of 1.6 l and 2.0 l of DOHC

4. Turn out fixing screws and remove the sensor from the engine.
5. Installation is made upside-down, - track correctness of laying of electroconducting and reliability of a tightening of fixture.


Models of 1.8 l, 2.4 l, 3.0 l and 3.5 l since 1997 вып.
